At 17:11PM on April 28th, Hampton Bays FD was notified of a vehicle into the water at the end of West Landing. Ex-Captain Mike Zarro arrived on scene first and relayed to Chief of Department James Kappers (7-5-30) that there was a confirmed unoccupied vehicle approximatley 20 feet into the water. Members utilized cold water suits from both Rescue Engine 7-5-2 and Rescue 7-5-5. Three members entered the water tethered by safety ropes to three tenders on the shore to assist in the removal of the vehicle. HBFD was assisted by Hampton Bays VAC at the scene. Rapid Recovery responded as the tow truck and coordinated the removal of the vehicle with the members in the water. Units operated for approximatley 1 hour and returned to quarters safely with no issues.
