By Hampton Bays Fire Department
December 14, 2018

On Friday December 14th at approximately 3:30 PM the Hampton Bays Fire Department was dispatched to Doctors Path in Riverhead for the Trench Rescue Team reference an adult male trapped about 30 feet down in a hole.

Additional manpower was requested from Riverhead Fire Department, Hagerman Fire Department, Selden Fire Department, Brookhaven National Lab Fire Department and Suffolk County Police Emergency Services who worked tirelessly to free the individual who was trapped from the waist down.

Manpower was used to help stabilize the sides of the trench to prevent any further collapse on any first responders and the individual trapped. Rescuers worked tirelessly to remove sand around the trench by hand.

About an hour and a half later at 5:30 PM the victim was successfully removed from the sand where he was then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police Aviation
