Hampton Bays House Fire

Hampton Bays Fire Department, on Sunday December 10, 2023 at 9:55 PM, received a report of an electrical fire at 3 Rolling Hill Road in Hampton Bays. Upon arrival, personnel observed a one-story residence showing a heavy smoke condition from the exterior basement entrance and a report of a person possibly in the basement. Firefighters entering the basement, were met with active fire, exacerbated by a heavy fire load due to excessive clutter. Firefighters were able to work their way into the basement and remove the occupant. The fire extended to the first floor, causing extensive damage to the residence. Chief James Kappers was Incident Commander and additional assistance was provided by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corp, East Quogue Fire Department and Southampton Fire Department. The fire was brought under control at 11:01 PM. Units remained on scene extinguishing “hotspots” until turned over the Southampton Town Fire Marshals Office at 1:26 AM. Southampton Town Police Department reported that the occupant, Gregory Konesky, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
